Bio

Violinist Tammy Chang made her first solo debut in 1998 with the New York Christian Concert Orchestra at LeFrak Hall in Queens College, New York. In recent years, she has performed as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral member in venues such as Alice Tully Hall, David Geffen Hall, Carnegie Weil Recital Hall, and Tilles Center, as well as internationally in Japan and China. In addition to performing, she has enjoyed participating in summer music festivals such as The Aspen Music Festival and School, Pacific Music Festival, and Spoleto Festival USA. Tammy Chang is also a prizewinner of several competitions, including the Long Island Philharmonic Competition, LISMA International Competition, Great Neck Competition, and the Korea Times Competition.

Aside from performing, she has a passion for teaching and has participated in a series of Educational Youth Concert Series with the Long Island Philharmonic. She is now enjoying a decade of teaching experience as her studio in New York continues to grow. In addition, she is also actively teaching online via Discover Melody, an online music conservatory which provides private lessons to students in the U.S. and internationally abroad.

Born and raised in New York, Tammy Chang studied at the Juilliard Pre-College Division from 1999 with Naoko Tanaka. In 2013 and 2015, she earned her Bachelor’s of Music and Master’s of Music degrees, respectively, from The Juilliard School, where she was a recipient of the C.V. Starr scholarship, Irene Diamond Graduate scholarship, Knafel Askin scholarship, Teplitsky Memorial scholarship, and Lilly Z. Foldes scholarship. In 2019, she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan under the tutelage of David Halen, where she was a recipient of the Rackham Merit Fellowship.
